MAME 0.222

MAME 0.222

MAME 0.222, the product of our May/June development cycle, is ready today, and it’s a very exciting release. There are lots of bug fixes, including some long-standing issues with classics like Bosconian and Gaplus, and missing pan/zoom effects in games on Seta hardware. Two more Nintendo LCD games are supported: the Panorama Screen version of Popeye, and the two-player Donkey Kong 3 Micro Vs. System. New versions of supported games include a review copy of DonPachi that allows the game to be paused for photography, and a version of the adult Qix game Gals Panic for the Taiwanese market.
Other advancements on the arcade side include audio circuitry emulation for 280-ZZZAP, and protection microcontroller emulation for Kick and Run and Captain Silver.
The GRiD Compass series were possibly the first rugged computers in the clamshell form factor, possibly best known for their use on NASA space shuttle missions in the 1980s. The initial model, the Compass 1101, is now usable in MAME. There are lots of improvements to the Tandy Color Computer drivers in this release, with better cartridge support being a theme. Acorn BBC series drivers now support Solidisk file system ROMs. Writing to IMD floppy images (popular for CP/M computers) is now supported, and a critical bug affecting writes to HFE disk images has been fixed. Software list additions include a collection of CDs for the SGI MIPS workstations.
There are several updates to Apple II emulation this month, including support for several accelerators, a new IWM floppy controller core, and support for using two memory cards simultaneously on the CFFA2. As usual, we’ve added the latest original software dumps and clean cracks to the software lists, including lots of educational titles.
Finally, the memory system has been optimised, yielding performance improvements in all emulated systems, you no longer need to avoid non-ASCII characters in paths when using the chdman tool, and jedutil supports more devices.
There were too many HyperScan RFID cards added to the software list to itemise them all here. You can read about all the updates in the whatsnew.txt file, or get the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages from the download page.

FUNHAUS 2017 SUBREDDIT SURVEY RESULTS

FUNHAUS SUBREDDIT SURVEY RESULTS 2017

Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lvo5RF2I5te6YP97hqNAzKSgwQiXNX3ap20Hf7IqZTg/edit?usp=sharing
Last year 2201 of you filled out the survey, this year the number has more than 2x that amount. Thanks you guys for participating and some of you for sharing (forsakenvow and anyone else). Also thanks for the feedback and guiding me with respect to some of the questions.
The results below could be a good indicator for the sub as a whole, I've outlined the major percentages.

Q1.01: What is your age range?

51.2% are between 20-24 27.0% are between 15-19 16.7% are between 25-29 03.8% are between 30-34
Not that surprising, since Funhaus has said they skew older. Some groups might be underestimated/overestimated because of a couple of trolls.

Q1.02: Gender

87.7% are Male 9.20% are Female 0.80% are Transgender 0.80% are Non Binary 1.20% are other
Again, not much of a surprise here. From last year, it seems like a decrease in female percentage (10.3% last year).

Q1.03: Sexuality

83.4% are Straight 10.2% are Bisexual 02.6% are Homosexual 02.3% are Other 01.5% are Queer
Last year we had 2.1% of respondents being homosexual. Maybe James "Alpha Gay" Willems had an effect on the population. Also there are more people answering as Bisexual than last year.

Q1.04: Country

53.8% are from USA 13.4% are from the UK (Includes made up countries like Scotland and Wales) 06.0% are Australian 08.1% are Canadian (Thank Elyse for the increase) **And we have 2 North Korean fans! That's half as many from last year! Uhoh, what happened to the other 2?**

Q2.01: Do you mainly watch Funhaus (as opposed to other channels)?

84.7% said Yes 15.3% said No
Not really indicative of the whole since its only for the Funhaus subreddit. Maybe the other portion of the population watch more of other channels.

Q2.02: When did you start watching?

51.0% started from launch 05.5% started 1 week after launch 11.3% started within a month after launch 18.6% started within a year of the launch 13.6% started a year from launch
Last year 64.7% watched from launch, there is a possibility that there are a lot of newer fans

Q2.03: Favourite Show?

20.5% said Openhaus 27.6% said Demo Disk 06.9% said Dude Soup 14.4% said Random Gameplay 06.5% said Wheelhaus 04.2% said Twits & Crits
Not a surprise, this sub loves the openhaus and demo disk. Looks like Dude Soup is losing popularity and from the 2 GTA videos we get on Thursday, 4.8% prefer the Race/death match ones versus the mission ones. Also, I fucked up. I should have included Google Trends, which 40 of you entered (and is probably underestimated because Other isn't always the best option). I'm sorry guys there are a lot of series and I'll have to do better to stay on top of them!

Q2.04: What is your favourite series?

22% liked Hitman 3.9% liked WWE 3.1% liked Golf and Minigolf related videos 2.9% liked Drunk Gameplay (which is a series, I guess?) 2.2% liked FAKK (2.2% also liked FAKK) 1.3% liked Overwatch 1.3% liked Raven's Cry and most of you answered N/A and non FH series (like Chaser)
Seems like Hitman is a classic. There was a bit of confusion in the answers but I guess I should have specified better.

Q2.05 What is your Favourite RT/AH show FH has been involved in?

22.6% chose ELR 20.8% chose LP Network collaborations 16.4% chose Off Topic 17.0% chose Other (Mostly On The Spot)
I fucked up here too, should have had On The Spot. Sorry guys. Looks like ELR is the king. I thought it was super fun too.

Q2.06: Where do you mainly watch?

86% on Youtube 14% on RT Site
Seems like a bit of growth on the RT site side (last year 10% of respondents watched on RT)

Q2.07: Are you a RT First Member?

62.3% say No 32.4% say Yes 05.3% say Yes (On Trial Version)
Last year 24% were First Members and 2.5% were on a trial version. Thank Twits and Crits and the Post Show!

Q2.08: Do you watch the livestreams?

76.9% say No 23.1% say Yes
Little bit of an increase from last year. Not much.

Q2.09: Favourite Current Personality

29.6% for Elyse 22.4% for James 19.0% for Adam 13.7% for Bruce 9.5% for Lawrence
Elyse usurped James as the most popular current member. Of course, Benson would be number one so the question actually asked who the 2nd favourite was but I didn't type that in. Oops.

Q2.10: Favourite of all past/present members (Some people might have used to pick 2nd fav)

22.2% for James 21.5% for Elyse 18.0% for Adam 11.5% for Bruce 10.6% for Joel
The numbers got weird here, I guess some people used this to pick their 2nd fav like they did last year. Also, Elyse lost her lead because I guess between the two, a lot of her votes went to the more feminine one (kidding! love you Joel). Pretty much a decrease in everyone due to nostalgia. Seems like people also missed Joel more than Spoole (4.6%).

Q2.11: Which Editor's do you want to see more of in productions?

#1 Peake #2 Don #3 Jacob
The rest of the editors: Omar, Bones, Jon, and Dan all had about 1/3 of respondents wish to see more of them. I allowed more than one selection, but I wonder what would happen if people had to choose.

Q2.12: What Social Media Platform do you use to follow FH?

Nothing too surprising. most of you follow their personal channels, Reddit accounts, Twitter and then the other stuff like Instagram, snapchat, etc.
This might have been a useless question as well.

Q2.13: Who would you watch if they (or were to) stream?:

Nothing too surprising. The Willems, Kovic, Bruce, and Lawrence have a big following.
It seems like most of you would like to watch Elyse and Matt Peake each do a solo stream. People also would love if Don streamed.

Q2.14: Were you a fan of IG?

46.9% say Yes 28.8% say they watched some, not a regular fan 24.3% say No
Last year over 50% were IG fans, seems like it could be new fans (I erroneously said that old fans were leaving)

Q2.15: Do you watch other RT productions?

49.7% say Yes (Some) 28.6% say Yes (Most) 17.3% say No 4.4% sat Yes (All)
Seems like there was an increase in RT views, but I feel like the question might be a bit silly now considering the increased amount of content RT puts out.

Q2.16: What other RT related channels do you watch?

77.0% watch Main Channel (RT) 64.6% watch LP 64.5% watch AH 56.3% watch Slow Mo Guys 30.9% watch The Know 22.7% watch RvB 04.8% watch Screw Attack 00.9% watch Game Kids
Seems like RT viewership has gone up, Know Watchers are half what they used to be (understandable) and AH/LP watchers have decreased (also understandable).

Q2.17: What LP Network Channels do you watch?

79.4% watch Cow Chop 17.4% watch Kinda Funny 17.1% watch Game Attack 06.6% watch The Creatures
Seems like a Cow Chop collaboration could be good for the channel. The humour is a bit different so it'd be interesting to see.

Q2.18: Who would you like to see Funhaus collab with?

17.5% ask for more Cow Chop (On Amazon show or Google Trends/Demo Disk) 06.0% ask for more Suptic 05.0% ask for more Rahul Kohli 03.7% ask for more Game Grumps (Demo Disk or Google Trends) 02.6% ask for more AH 02.0% ask for H3H3
Other frequent names are Cr1tikal, Dunkey, Obama, Joel, Kinda Funny, Mega64, Sark. It got a bit tough when people put in multiple names, but it seems like Cow Chop, Suptic, and Kohli are the most popular.

Q3.01: Do you play video games?

97.1% say Yes 02.9% say No

Q3.02: How many hours/week do you game?

22.5% say 6-10 17.5% say 0-5 18.6% say 11-15 14.6% say 16-20 09.0% say 21-25

Q3.03: What platforms do you game on

78.5% play on PC 37.3% play on PS4 30.2% play on Xbox One 20.5% play on NDS/3DS 13.0% play on Xbox 360 10.3% play on Switch 09.6% play on PS3 08.0% play on Wii U 05.1% play on Other 04.4% play on Wii
I might just get rid of this section, or at least the last question where I ask what people own. I don't know if its useful information.

Suggested improvements for 2018.

Please let me know of any and I will use them for next year if I choose to hold the survey again.

THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING

MAME 0.192

MAME 0.192

Even if you’re still feeling burned from Singles’ Day, Thanksgiving, and/or Black Friday, MAME 0.192 is here, and there’s plenty packed into this update. At long last, the MCU for Ping Pong King is simulated, making the game playable, and Flower now runs better than it ever did. Taito’s abstract maze game Marine Date is also emulated better than ever, although there are still some issues with collision detection. We’ve got newly dumped prototypes, including a prototype of Battlecry, and a more complete version of Grudge Match that appears to come from a location test in Italy. Many of the Aristocrat MK5 gambling machines have been redumped so the ROM checksums pass and they boot. Missing graphics in the Merit Megatouch games have been fixed.
But we know that rumours about the next part of this announcement have made lots of arcade fans excited: IGS PGM2 software is showing signs of life. I’m sure at least some of you are wondering how this was achieved. Usual suspects Morten Shearman Kirkegaard and Peter Wilhelmsen (recently featured here in connection to their success in dumping Gaelco protection programs) have built another FPGA-based rig that allowed them to dump the internal programs from the ARM CPUs for Oriental Legend 2 and Knights of Valour 2 New Legend. On top of this, there are some nice performance improvements to MAME’s MPEG audio decoding that should benefit other systems as well.
In computer system emulation, we’ve got a number of graphical fixes for FM Towns, heaps of improvements for the Tatung Einstein, No-Slot Clock support for the Apple //e family, and support for some Brazilian CoCo clones from Prológica and Codimex. There are some big updates to the PC software lists, too. The ACI Destiny Prodigy, Mephisto RISC 1MB and Mephisto RISC II chess computers are now working. Finally, the Interpro drivers have numerous improvements, including preliminary keyboard/video support.
That’s just scratching the surface – there are far more bug fixes, newly dumped system and performance improvements. You can get the source or Windows binaries from the download page.
